The Power of Social Media: A Personalized Approach

It’s no secret that social media is a significant factor in making your business grow. You probably won’t be surprised to know that there is still hesitation to invest in social media efforts, both organic and paid, by Gen X and Boomer business owners. Obviously, this is my profession, and I ALWAYS recommend social as a marketing tactic.

However, social isn’t a “one size fits all” strategy, and frankly, even after 13 years in the industry, I still see businesses doing social all wrong. Taking all the technical details away, your social strategy can be and should be extremely simple. Just adopt a personalized approach.

Be Authentic, Be You

Your brand is your power. Why dilute it with content or social posts that don’t bleed your brand? Authenticity matters. Copying your competitors' social media strategies blindly won't necessarily yield the same results for your brand. Whether you are a traditional service-based company or an e-commerce site, embrace your unique voice, and let it shine through your content. Your feed should reflect your brand's values and personality to reach out to your target audience.

Post Purposefully

Posting for the sake of posting is not an effective strategy. It’s not even a strategy at all, really. Every social media post should have a clear purpose and goal. Understanding your audience's needs and interests is vital in crafting relevant and engaging content. For example, if you are a tree-cutting service, sharing videos about dolphins might not resonate with your followers. But, if you're an animal-loving brand, you may want to share a video of a cat stuck in a tree, emphasizing how you prioritize the safety of animals. Tailoring your content to your audience's expectations will help build trust and establish your expertise.

Providing Value

Rather than bombarding your followers with sales pitches, take a more helpful and informative approach. Your social media platforms should be a source of valuable content for your audience to keep them engaged and coming back for more. Consider creating videos on product cleaning techniques or tips on when to hire a professional in your industry. By offering practical advice and insights, you position your brand as a trusted resource in your industry. Remember, social media is about building relationships and fostering engagement, not just pushing for immediate sales.

Don’t waste your time

Social media can be a waste of time for businesses if not approached strategically. Don’t let it be. To make the most of social media, you must personalize your strategies to align with your brand identity and audience expectations. By being authentic, purposeful, and helpful, you can leverage social media to engage with your target audience, establish your brand's credibility, and drive meaningful results. Remember, social media success is not about begging for purchases; it's about providing value, showing your expertise, and nurturing relationships that will ultimately lead to business growth.
